Which is a good thing. I think the lowest nighttime temperature we've seen is 43 degrees. It might have been colder, but that's cool enough for good sleeping weather.
Some of the donkeys haven't had fly masks on in a few days, and today we took the socks off Penny and Rosie's front legs. There are still flies around, but not enough to be as big of pests as they are in the summer.
John just came in to get me to help round up Tula. Tanya one of the workers at the Oasis Exotic Bird Sanctuary, down the road is a welder. Years ago she fixed some of our corral panels that had popped welds, usually with help from equine hooves.
Not long ago she asked how they were holding up and I told her they had some areas that needed attention. She and her dad came down for a couple of days and fixed all of them. To say we are grateful is an understatement.
This morning John and Suzanne were getting everything back to where it belonged and somehow in the process, Tula took advantage of an open gate and out she went. With most of the donkeys it wouldn't be a problem, but Tula by most standards is not tame, she doesn't trust people never has and never will. So we made a 3 person line, actually she was so interested in eating mesquite beans we sneaked up on her told her to go in her pen and she did............!!!
We had planned on taking Rosie our most greedy donkey out on a lead today to see if she would be interested in the beans, but that won't be necessary now........!! Tula answered that question very well..........!!! LOL
A lot of the beans are black and nasty looking, but some of them are turning a darker brown and obviously are still worth eating. So it will be awhile before they can go out. Yesterday Suzanne put some of them in the dog pen to clean up the weeds and they did a very good job, like there isn't any left for what was to be the next clean up crew today...........!!!
Linda sent some pictures taken at the last burro race this year at Frederick mostly by some of the professional photographers. The 1st picture I think Linda took, of Pepsi and his new best friend.
It sounds like his new home will be heaven for the little guy. He walks his little girl to the school bus, and even though she shows horses and is a horse person, I guess she has latched onto him as her buddy, she's even tried to get him into the house, probably has by now.........LOL

Good job Levi |
I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is Frijolita voicing her opinion on something |
Team Loki with Linda in their final sprint to the finish line |
Team Muzzy with Lynn coming out of the dreaded tunnel |
This is a group of people from Wisconsin that came down for the races, and knew Lynn and Linda and our donkeys from reading the blog. |
It's amazing how involved people become with the donkeys. There are people coming from California for the race in Superior the 12th of October. Not to mention quite a few of the racers that run all 8 of the annual races in Colorado every year. It's going to be exciting, a lot of the people have never raced before, but I guess it sounded like fun and they are willing to give it a try. I have a feeling we will have a lot more donkey lovers when the race is over.

One of the highlights of our 6000 mile RV trip last year was the visit to your place. I thought the link below would be of interest. It is an article from the Raleigh NC News and Observer about a celebrity mule.

So glad you enjoyed visiting with the donkeys last year, they are special animals. Thanks for sharing the article about Raymond, he sounds like quite a character. He has probably had laminitis at some time that damaged his feet. I hope putting him in a domesticated situation works out. Mules are such odd creatures. A friend that is 5 generational donkey/mule person said they are conflicted from birth because they are neither horse or donkey. I know they think much different than either.
